This is a good knife. It's a strong chopper, with a great grip, & a great MOLLE compatible sheath w/ hard polymer insert (despite what some say). OKC lowered the carbon steel type from 1095 to 1075. While less expensive steel, that doesn't personally bother me, because I feel 1075 is a better steel type for the intended use of this knife. It's supposed to be a tough chopper, not fighting knife. Unfortunately, my knife arrived so dull, I can't even cut paper w/ it. I can't cut my fingers either, even when I slide them along the blade w/ pressure. I'm sure if I applied enough pressure, they'd eventually get cut. That's not the point. A $60 knife shouldn't arrive w/ such a poor factory edge, that the user has to spend hours sharpening before use. It's poor quality control, & purposeful cost cutting. I can only recommend this knife if you have quality sharpening equipment, & you know what you're doing. You can't just expect to take it camping after it arrives. It requires work first. To note, I emailed OKC about the full factory edge, & asked if they could help me out. They never got back to me, & no one answers their customer service number. They make you leave a message, but they never call you back. I'm unimpressed w/ the company.
So I got this knife after Nutnfancy did a review on youtube around 10 years ago. I have done some serious chopping with this thing and I have sharpened it several times. No major issues or complaints. It has taken everything I have thrown its way. I thought about getting a RAT 7 but thought why? This thing handles it all. If you get it, you wont be disappointed. This description says its 1075 steel and when I got it I am pretty sure it was 1095.
In regards to the other reviewer, the grind at the tip may intentionally be asymmetric. They seem to be made like that and I does reinforce the tip making it stronger. This is the best knife for the money I’ve ever found. Extremely strong, it chops almost as well as a small axe, and is extremely durable. The handle, hand guard, sheath, and of course the 1/4 thick 1095 full tang blade are all well designed, ergonomic, and functional. If you could have only one knife for life or one tool for the wilderness, this would be it.
I have collected knives for years but had never gotten a ontario knife before but after having a few friends talk me into getting one i ordered two. This knife could be great but the grind on the cut edge at the tip is off and dont meet up. Overall i think it is a tank but disappointed in the quality control i own countless knives and have never seen that before and i only have ever owned this one and the sp1 i ordered the same day and it is great but for me that is a 50/50 on getting a good knife i still have my beckers bk2,3 and 9 the u.s.m.c kabar and kabar fighter and a few more.
#1 Pro- built like a tank
