I received the Rat 5 and gave it my normal knife inspection. The overall design concept is very similar to the ESEE 5. Packaged very nicely. The blade design/shape is very practical, easy to get a fine edge, and strikes sparks on a ferro rod very well. The proportions of blade to handle length is good for someone like me with 2X hands. The handle however was too square. More of an oval shape is better. One of the first things I did was take it to my disk sander and reshape it by rounding off all 4 corners. It feels good now. I am having a custom leather sheath made for it, because as usual, no matter how much you spend on a knife the sheath is always poorly fitting and cheap. This is probably my #1 complaint about most knives I buy and use, even some of the $300 variety. Other than that, this knife will be accompanying me on a solo 2 week Boundary Waters canoe trip this summer..Looking forward to it.
